  • in the present tense, verbs in the ils/elles form end in -ent

Review: 19/09/13

English

  • Continuing  discussion on George’s confrontation with Chris and Ann.
  • Chris and Ann have found relief in each other because they are both being overshadowed, Chris by the death of his brother Larry, and Ann by her father. Ann had just lost Larry and immediately became overshadowed by her father’s conviction.
  • Is Chris beginning to accept the fact that he knows his father is guilty?
  • Why is Ann suppressing the truth?
  • Chris gets emotional while George remains stable because Chris represents lies, and lies are built upon manipulation while George represents the truth which always remains the same whether you recognise if it’s the truth or not.

  • No pictures of the conference were taken, but there are minutes
  • Hitler was not present during this conference

  •  Causes of Inflation
  • Cost-Push Inflation
    • When inflation occurs due to a rise in price as a result of rising business costs

  • Esther -last name– was forced to be in the Concentration Camp’s Orchestra.
    • She mentions that being in the orchestra saved her life and allowed her to survive through the camp
    • The Orchestra was present at the gates when new prisoners would come in and when important people were entering.
    • It was common for the orchestra to have concerts particularly for the Nazi Generals
    • They would follow those who were sent to the gas chambers while playing music. Those sent to the gas chambers didn’t know what was happening but the orchestra players understood that those people were going to die
      • They couldn’t refuse to play since there were SS soldiers behind them, ready with a gun.
    • The workers didn’t like the orchestra players since the orchestra players were allowed to sit in comfortable chairs while they worked.

    • He comes as a symbol of justice in order to avenge his father. He knows that his father is innocent and that Joe committed the crime.
    • He wears his father’s hat symbolizing he identifies with his father and that

Review: 16/09/13

Economics

  • Started Chapter 32 on Inflation from section C of the Government and the Economy.
  • What is inflation?
    • Inflation is the general and sustained increase in the price of goods and services during a given period of time. The target inflation for most countries is a rate of 0%-2% in order to keep things relatively stable.
  • How is inflation measured?
    • It is measured either through CPI (consumer price index) or RPI (retail price index) which records the prices of a bunch of basic goods that an average family would use and  sees how it changes through time(?)
    • RPI also takes into account the costs of housing while CPI does not.
  • What is deflation?
    • Deflation is basically the opposite of inflation since it is the general and sustained fall/decrease in the price of goods and services during a given period of time.
  • What is disinflation?
    • Disinflation is when there is negative inflation of more than 5% and when the inflation rate slows down and when cost of living goes down.
  • What is the difference between deflation and disinflation?
    • Disinflation is the slowing down of the rate of inflation while deflation is the actual falling of prices. Disinflation is generally a good thing while deflation is not.
  • How does inflation affect different people?
    • Inflation affects those with fixed incomes negatively as their income stays the same but prices rise so their spending/buying power has decreased.
    • Inflation affects borrowers positively as their incomes/wages rise while their debt remains the same so its easier for them to pay off debt.
    • ugh. other stuff i forgot.
  • How does deflation affect different people?
    • Deflation affects those with fixed incomes positively as their incomes remain the same but prices decrease so their spending/buying power increases. (deflation is essentially the opposite of inflation)
    • deflation affects borrowers negatively as their debt remains the same but incomes decrease(?)
  • What is hyperinflation?
    • Hyperinflation is when a country experiences excessively high rates of inflation (e.g. 10,000,000% inflation)
    • Prices will often rise every hour.
    • basic commodities such as bread, potatoes, etc will become more expensive in terms of how much you need to pay (e.g. during the 3 year period of hyperinflation of 1921-1923 in Germany bread prices skyrocketed. In 1918 the price of bread was 0.5 marks but by 1923 it was 201,000,000,000 marks)
    • It results in money being useless/worthless.

Math

  • Started Radians & the unit circle
  • refer to post on Quadrants too look at the different quadrants.
  • How to convert from radian to degrees
    • For degrees to radian, multiply the degrees by π/180.
    • For radian to degrees, multiply the radian by 180/π
  • Started sectors.
    • To find the arc length of a sector, you must multiply θ by the radius (θr)
    • to find the area of a sector, multiply 1/2 by θ by radius squared (1/2 x θ x r2)
  • Sin, Cos and tan are all positive in the first quadrant. In the second quadrant only sin is positive, in the third quadrant its only tan and in the fourth quadrant its only cos that is positive.

  • Review of Nazi Economic policies between 1933-36, 1936-39, 1942-44 and beginning of the war in the East (WW2)
  • 1933-36 : The New Plan
    • introduced by Hjalmar Schacht and main aspects of it were Trade Agreements, Job Creation, Government Spending.
    • Trade agreements were set up by Germany with individual countries who were less developed such as Hungary. they traded manufactured goods including butter and fodder for cheaper raw materials
    • Job creation was achieved by firing Jews and political opponents and then replacing them with the unemployed. Trade unions were banned so that the workers wouldn’t have as much power or a say in what they did. Jobs were also created by having the unemployed rebuild autobahns (highways) and old buildings but jobs like that we’re temporary and had low pay. Conscription/enlistment to the army was mandatory.
    • Government Spending was channelled into private firms as subsidies so that they would be encouraged to produce more. On the other hand, Department stores struggled. Trade was regulated as what was imported and how much of it was limited.
